Maika Monroe Body Measurements, Height, Shoe Size, Boyfriend & Net Worth

Maika Monroe nearly became a professional kiteboarder instead of an actress. At 17, she left Santa Barbara for Cabarete in the Dominican Republic, where she trained full-time and completed high school online. Acting was still the side project at that point. A decade later, she is one of the leading horror actresses of her generation, with projects like It Follows, Villains, The Guest, and Longlegs to her credits.

Dillon Monroe Buckley was born on 29 May 1993 in Santa Barbara, California. She is the only child of a sign-language interpreter and a construction worker. “Maika” was a nickname she had gone by for most of her life, and she eventually changed her name legally.

How Kiteboarding Shaped Her Career:

Kiteboarding was more than a teenage hobby for Monroe. She began the sport at 13 after repeatedly asking her father to teach her and later trained full-time in the Dominican Republic from age 17.

That athletic background has remained relevant to the physical demands of her acting career. It Follows and The Guest required running, hiding, and physical endurance, while later projects such as The 5th Wave and Independence Day: Resurgence put her into action sequences.

She has still kept kiteboarding a part of her life rather than quitting after entering the entertainment industry.

Maika Monroe Career Highlights:

Kiteboarding and First Roles

Maika Monroe began acting while still competing as a kiteboarder. Her first film was At Any Price in 2012, and she appeared alongside Kate Winslet in Jason Reitman’s Labor Day in 2013.

The Guest and It Follows

2014 became the turning point in her career. She starred opposite Dan Stevens in Adam Wingard’s thriller The Guest, and then as Jay Height in David Robert Mitchell’s It Follows. The latter became one of the most acclaimed horror films of the decade and earned her an Empire Award nomination. The two releases together made her one of the genre’s most sought-after leads.

Studio Films and Thrillers

She moved into larger studio productions with The 5th Wave and Independence Day: Resurgence in 2016. She subsequently returned to more thriller and horror projects, including Greta in 2018, Villains in 2019, and Watcher in 2022.

Longlegs

Monroe took on one of her most prominent roles in 2024 with Longlegs, playing FBI Agent Lee Harker opposite Nicolas Cage. Released by NEON in July 2024, it took $128 million worldwide and became one of the most successful independent horror releases in years.

Where She Is Now

2026 is her busiest year. She led Universal’s Reminders of Him, adapted from Colleen Hoover’s novel, which opened on 13 March.

Victorian Psycho, in which she plays Winifred Notty, premiered in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes in May 2026. It co-stars Thomasin McKenzie, Jason Isaacs, and Ruth Wilson.

Monroe is also returning to the role that made her a horror name. They Follow, the sequel to It Follows, began filming in July 2026. It picks up ten years after the original, and it is the first time Monroe has returned to a character. She has described the sequel as darker and more extreme than she expected.
